Nvidia to Improve Android Touch Responsiveness with DirectTouch

There are several reasons why iOS devices have always managed to beat Android devices in the touch-responsiveness department. For one, the way that the on-screen elements are rendered is different between the two operating systems. Then there?s the fact that each Android device may use different touch-controllers from one device to the next. Nvidia is taking a stab at upping the touch-responsiveness of Tegra 3-equipped devices by offloading some of the touch input responsibilities directly onto Tegra 3. They call this ?DirectTouch?.

Nvidia demonstrates that the Xoom with Nvidia Tegra 2 can handle around 110 touch samples/second with one finger. As each finger is added, the number of samples/second drops. With Tegra 3 and DirectTouch, samples/second nearly double to around 200 for one finger. As more fingers are added, it seems that DirectTouch?intelligently?scales to keep the samples/second around 200, even with 10 individual inputs!

What an increased number of samples/second really means is more accuracy. Increasing the samples/second by 2x as we see here means that the hardware and software are able to record where the input is happening twice as often. At slow speeds, such as scrolling a webpage, this isn?t all that important. However, as the speed of the input increases, the samples/second become more important to maintain accuracy, which is why Nvidia says that this will be particularly useful for gaming.

This is my favorite Brighton store ? hands down. ?It?s a flagship store so it?s the largest you?ll find. ?The service is as you should expect from Brighton and worth driving to the Marina Del Rey location to garner the experience. ?Happy shopping.
Up until now, I?ve had really good experiences at this store. ?I visit this store frequently and have purchased 4 bags and tons of jewelry and gifts from here over the last 2 years. The company is GREAT and their products are fantastic but my review is for a couple of the staff.The only reason I gave them 2 stars was because the store sales person (Wendy) always recognizes me and is rather aggressive and it has always bothered me that she hovers over me asking personal questions, while I browsed the store. ?I?m all about friendly staff and service, but she was extremely pushy ALL the time. ?Clearly they are paid on commission here. ?It bothered me, but I still continued to shop here.Drew recently bought a white bag for me which actually looked more yellow than the one I wanted and originally saw at a different store. ?The sales people convinced us to purchase it anyway. ?In Vegas freshwater Pearl Necklaces, I saw the same bag but more white (the shade I wanted). ?Apparently the leather just picked up dye differently and some bags came out more yellow or pinkish than others. ?I called the original store and spoke to Wendy about it and she was totally unhelpful with attitude!! ?She said there wasn?t much she can do, even though I have the receipt and original box from 6 weeks ago, but she can try to send the bag back to headquarters as a defective piece.I went into the store, and I also asked if I can get a price adjustment since the bag has gone on sale now (30% off)?and they said NO. ?You can only do a price adjustment within 7 days Stainless Steel Necklaces, said the red head older lady. Funny enough I went to return the darn bag today in Pasadena since technically I have 60 days to return, and the lady happily took it back. ?She even offered it to me as $260 instead of $325 since it went on sale! ?We returned the bag, and ended up buying a bag for the $350 at the Coach store around the corner!!I will continue to shop at Brighton always, because it?s a great company with great products and usually offers great service! ?I?ll just be driving a bit further to Century City, Sherman Oaks, or Pasadena.FYI: Brighton offers a complimentary cleaning of your Brighton bag once a year!

Scientists have discovered a new target in their fight against the devastating global disease 'malaria' thanks to the discovery of a new protein involved in the parasite's life cycle.

The research has uncovered a vital player in the sexual phase of the malaria parasite's reproduction which could prove an effective target for new treatments to stop the disease in its tracks.

The scientists from The University of Nottingham's School of Biology, with collaborators from the Universities of Leicester, Oxford, Imperial College London and Leiden in the Netherlands, have just published the results of their work in the journal PLoS Pathogens.

Biting back

Malaria is a devastating global disease with several hundred million clinical cases and just under a million people die from it every year. The disease is caused by an infection of the red blood cells with a tiny parasite called a Plasmodium, of which there are four important species. These organisms are carried from person to person by the Anopheles mosquito. When it bites an infected person, the mosquito sucks up blood containing the parasite, which may then be passed on to the mosquito's next victim.

Dr David Guttery, lead scientist of the paper and part of Dr Tewari's group from the University of Nottingham's Centre for Genetics and Genomics in the School of Biology said:

"The malaria parasite is a complex organism and to understand how it multiplies is crucial to stopping its transmission. Our study has identified a cell-division cycle gene in the malaria parasite and its role in the development of male sex cells and is hence a good candidate for putting the brakes on its development. We have shown that by deleting this gene, male gametes cannot form and burst out of their host cell (a process called exflagellation). Blocking the formation of these cells can be an important strategy in the prevention of malaria transmission from mosquito to mammalian hosts".

New Target

The protein that has been identified is called CDC20 and plays a part in the cell division cycle of the malaria parasite Plasmodium berghei which infects mice and rats. This gene has been shown to have an important role in cell division in many organisms, but up to now nothing has been known about its function in the malaria parasite. The new study provides the first description of the role of CDC20 in Plasmodium cell division and in the development of the malaria parasite's male sex cells (microgametes), which are essential for parasite transmission between humans and the mosquito carrier. The scientists have discovered that the absence of this gene stops the male sex cell from bursting out of its host cell and fertilising a female cell as they are arrested in their cell division.

The sexual stage of the malaria parasite's life-cycle occurs within the mosquito after it has fed on malaria-infected blood. This activates the parasite's sexual phase and during this period, the male sex cell precursor (microgametocyte) rapidly replicates it DNA and produces 8 male sex cells (gametes). These gametes then burst out of the microgametocyte in a process called exflagellation and seek out a female sex cell to fertilise. By blocking the process of exflagellation, the team have identified a way of slamming the brakes on malaria transmission.

The team of researchers were from the Centre of Genetics and Genomics at The University of Nottingham, the University of Oxford, Imperial College London, Leiden University, the University of Leicester and the MRC National Institute for Medical Research funded by the MRC, Wellcome Trust, and EviMalar.

It coincides with the Andaman Sea and its myriad deserted tropical islands being voted ?favourite sailing venue? and ?best regatta location in Asia?, in a survey conducted among sailors at the last 2011 Phuket King's Cup Regatta in December - Thailand?s signature annual international yachting event.

As mentioned before, plug socket coverings and light switches can all be bought in a variety of materials and designs that, if carefully selected, will complement the handles and add to the personality of a room.

Although the majority of home owners and decorators will ignore the need for quality and matching fittings, the finishing touch is what can really transform a room into the spectacle it should be.

How to Buy Silver Below Its Spot Price - Investment U

Most investors are skeptical when you tell them that they can actually buy silver below spot prices.

But it?s absolutely true. And there?s no word play, or gimmicks. Anyone can do it right now.

The only caveat is, to buy silver below spot prices you have to make bulk purchases of the right silver vehicle.

Standard silver bullion ? like American Eagles and Canadian Maple Leafs ? can often carry high premiums above the metal?s spot price. And no matter how many you buy at once, you?d be very hard pressed to find any bullion dealers willing to part with Eagles or Maple Leafs below spot.

However, there is one specific set of silver coins that dealers quite frequently sell below spot prices.

They?re called ?junk silver coins?. And despite their less-than-flattering name, they?ve become one of the most popular investments for speculators looking to get the most silver for their money.

Investing in Junk Silver Coins

The term ?junk silver coin? is broad, covering many world coins. But at its core, a junk silver coin is any government-issued coin containing any amount of silver that has little to no numismatic or collectible value above the value of the metal it contains.

Although there are many world coins minted in silver, the most popular junk silver on the market today are circulated U.S. coins minted before 1965. Prior to that year, the U.S. government produced many of its coins in alloys consisting of silver purities ranging from 35% to 90%.

Investors buy these coins today for their metal content, paying attention to what they call ?melt value? ? which doesn?t imply the melting of the coin (that?s illegal) but rather the intrinsic value of the silver contained.

Here are the most common U.S. junk silver coins that are available on the market today and an idea of their melt values:

In the past few years, the market for U.S. junk silver coins has been quite healthy as buyers quickly learn that they can be one of the absolute most affordable ways to buy silver.

A new, uncirculated American Silver Eagle typically carries a 10% ? 15% premium over spot prices right now.

Meanwhile, you buy can U.S. junk silver coins for as little as 1% ? 3% over spot prices. Sometimes you can even buy junk silver below spot if you buy in bulk.

But you have to buy the right coins. That?s because a growing interest in numismatics has greatly increased the premiums for certain, rarer U.S. silver coins.

A circulated Peace dollar in good condition, for example, will sell for a 15% ? 20% premium from a coin shop or online auction ? higher that the premium on a 99.9% pure silver American Eagle.

So if you?re interested in junk silver coins as an affordable way to buy silver, not all U.S. silver coins fit the bill.

But there are three specific U.S. silver coins that I believe provide for the best junk silver investment.

The Best Junk Silver Coins for Investment

The best junk silver coins are the purest. Junk silver coins with lower silver purities ? like the 40% silver Kennedy half-dollars and 35% silver Jefferson war nickels ? force you to mostly own other metals of much lesser value, like copper and manganese.

Popularity-wise, junk coins with lower silver purities play second fiddle to the 90% silver coins and are ultimately less liquid. So I recommend staying away from those.

So considering purity and rising numismatic values for the rarer U.S. silver coins, here are the three best junk silver coins for investment:

Very few of these coins remain in general circulation. However, you will receive a silver dime or quarter as change once every blue moon.

Nevertheless, you certainly won?t be able to put together a sizable investment from the silver coins you find in your pocket change. So you?ll need to buy them somewhere. And the best places to do that are from coin shops and reputable online dealers. There, you?ll find junk silver coins sold in small denominations, or in what are known as ?silver bags?.

The Cheapest Junk Silver: Silver Bags

A silver bag is simply a bag of circulated U.S. junk silver coins ? assorted in either single or multiple denominations with varying dates.

A typical 90% silver bag will contain U.S. Roosevelt dimes, Washington quarters, and Franklin and Kennedy half dollars with a specific face value. Dealers most frequently sell silver bags with $100, $500 and $1,000 face values.

These silver bags are the absolute cheapest way to buy silver. Sometimes you can even buy just below spot prices, if you buy enough. One online dealer, Ampex, is selling a $1,000 silver bag for about 0.2% below spot right now. Below is a brief approximation of current premiums on silver bags:

To buy silver below spot prices, speculators may need to make a sizable investment. But for serious silver investors, a large silver bag could be very profitable if the metal?s price continues to rise.

Even though these coins are called ?junk?, they contain one of the most important monetary metals known to man: silver. Today?s coins are minted with base metals of much lesser value, like copper and nickel. It seems to me that they are the real ?junk.?

But no matter what you call them, 90% silver U.S. coins can be one of the most affordable and fun ways to invest in silver.

Well, I've never really enjoyed realistic myself. It's just sometimes, if it's absolutely necessary. I've set up these characters for awhile now, so I've been pretty determined to use them despite their anime appearance.
But I'll gladly type up a detailed appearance. I hope I'm not being a burden in any way.

God, I want Paul Ryan to run for president.

Ryan has the ability to get to the heart of an issue and express it in a way that's concise and clear.

He's not abrasive. He doesn't have a grating delivery. He's confident without appearing arrogant.

In short, he's a very effective communicator.

Yesterday on Meet the Press, Ryan schooled host David Gregory, Leftist. Ryan didn't permit Gregory to define the debate on the Obama contraception mandate as a "faith-based broadside and an attack against the president's leadership."

Ryan explained the roots of the concern about the mandate. He defused Gregory's attack on Rick Santorum and Obama contraception mandate opponents by politely but firmly directing the discussion's focus to be about Obama's violation of our founding principles.

Gregory tried to paint Obama as a victim, being demonized by his detractors.

Ryan turned that around and showed that we are the victims.

Obama's violation of the Constitution is an attack on us.

PAUL RYAN (R-WI): Well, I couldn't hear all of that clip from Rick Santorum, but what I would say is what we're getting from the White House with this conscience issue, it's not an issue about contraception, it's an issue that reveals a political philosophy that the president is showing that basically treats our constitutional rights as if they're revocable privileges from our government, not inalienable rights by our creator. And so what I would simply say is we're seeing this new government activism, sort of a paternalistic, arrogant political philosophy that puts new government-granted rights in the way of our constitutional rights. And so what I think it really is is that it's an argument for freedom, for our founding principles and for protecting those constitutional rights which right with his new mandate from HHS, like I said, it's really not about contraception, it's about violating our First Amendment rights to religious freedom and of conscience. That's what I think he's trying to get at.

DAVID GREGORY: You think it's an appropriate part of the debate for a Republican contender for the White House to say the president has a phony theology as part of his agenda and say things like, "Well, if he says he's a Christian then he's a Christian." Haven't we been through all of this before trying to demonize the president?

RYAN: Yeah, I wouldn't, I wouldn't characterize it that way. I would simply say that he has a political philosophy that believes that he can mandate certain benefits and activities of the American people which conflicts with their constitutional rights. He believes that these new government-granted rights trump our constitutional rights such as our First Amendment rights to conscience, to freedom of religion. So I would, I would go after him on his political philosophy, which violates our founding principles.

GREGORY: Congressman Ryan, do you think this is an issue that's legitimate for the presidential campaign? Do we have to come to a point where the country reconciles different views about this and we have a consistent way of looking at same-sex marriage?

RYAN: Actually, I came on to talk about the debt crisis we have and the budget and I think that's really the driving issue of this, this election.

GREGORY: Mm-hmm.

If I recall from the last presidential campaign, President Obama, Vice President Biden said that they support marriage as being between a man and a woman. So you know, I don't know why we're spending all this time talking about this. We've got a debt crisis coming and the administration just gave us a budget that just simply charts another path to debt and decline. It's an unserious budget that just fails at tackling these challenges and I think that's what we ought to be talking about right now.

The Leftists, naturally, don't want to talk about the fiscal mess, the horrible economy.
